Welcome!
We would like to invite you to join a unique conversation for empowerment in ending world hunger. Discourses – the words, conversations, and language we use around a certain topic – are powerful governors of thinking and action, and can move us forward, or hold us back. Our theory to be explored here is that efforts based on a discourse for long-term sustainability and community empowerment are more effective in moving towards a world without hunger than acts of charity. This discourse goes beyond even ‘teaching a person to fish’, to honoring their inherent capabilities and knowledge of how to end their own hunger, and empowering their efforts. We believe that by focusing on and supporting efforts consistent with a discourse of empowerment, we can shift the paradigm away from traditional charity efforts that sustain cycles of dependency, and move the world more rapidly towards a world without hunger. Please join us and help define and promote this discourse through the ever-growing world of social media and global commitment.

| One of the participants on the Facebook conversation mentioned alternative currency as a source of empowerment. I found this to be intriguing and added a couple of existing resources from the WiserEarth network, below. Gail Ervin 8:21 pm

| There has been a flurry of activity in the media regarding women & empowerment even on Oprah had a woman inspired by Heifer in a really remarkable story of empowerment (http://www.oprah.com/article/oprahshow/pkgregistry/20090925-tows-tererai) Along other lines it is unfortunate yet apparent that geting some continuity into the conversations threads seems difficult.
