Could you please add a new Activity of:

Network Weaving

I'm working with some other people to start a Network Weavers Network. If the Activity, we may be able to use WISER for our public directory. Also, Network Weaving is just in the process of becoming a discipline, and having such an Activity will help us to find one another. Thanks!

Thanks for fixing the profile page - it works well. However, when I repeatedly edited/previewed information in the HTML field, the HTML programmed text became spaced further and further apart...is there anything that can be done about this (although this didn't affect the final result on the profile page) It would also be useful to told how to switch 'Bold' (etc) on and off as basic HTML users (like me) aren't very savvy about how to do this...maybe another link to the 'Help' page...or a mini very basic tutorial on using HTML.

Also I wanted to look at what watchlist' did (I had no idea), but when I moused over it, there is no help or mouseover describing what it is and what it does - could all features like this have mouseovers describing what they are and also a link to /or pop-up from the 'Help' section if need more info on how to use it? (ditto with the word 'network') Cheers Camilla :)

Hannah,
We have fixed the search refine panel for resources. The fix will be available on this site soon. In the mean time, you can use an advanced feature: type the name of the section you would like to search for before your search words.

For example, in the search panel, after you choose "Resources", type:

publisher:Island Press

see at: http://www.civilsociety.org/scs/index.php/resource/search?q=publisher%3AIsland+Press

or

type:book country:United States

see at: http://www.civilsociety.org/scs/index.php/resource/search?q=type%3Abook+country%3AUnited+States

or

area: Global Climate Change name: rivers run dry

see at: http://www.civilsociety.org/scs/index.php/resource/search?q=area%3A+Global+Climate+Change+name%3A+rivers+run+dry

I just tried to search in "resources" for something I posted a while back. If I search in the "advanced" search screen (ie, where it let's you search by author, keyword, publisher, type of resource, etc), and I search for all resources published by "Resources for the Future" or "Island Press", for example, it finds nothing. I know there are loads of resources from these publishers uploaded, however.

Hi Camilla,

Things should be ok now with updating user profiles. We had a few technical issues today that converged on us. They should be cleared up now. I agree that avatar explanation need not link offsite.
Sm_avatar
I tried to update my profile several times, but whenever I try to save it, I get a message "Another user just updated this data. Please try again."...any help?

Also, when I clicked on the 'what is an avatar' link it shot me off to the Wikipedia page for a definition...could any links to other sites appear as pop-ups rather than taking the user away from the site completely. Cheers :) Camilla

Do you think a "home" button on WiserEarth pages would be useful? I know you can click the logo to get back to the homepage, but before I figured this out I was looking around for a "home" button, perhpas others will experience the same thing.

Oz and Noel

If you go to this page (http://civilsociety.org/scs/organization/view/e4f19fd3660babe4ae06e36911a8b865) I tried to eliminate the quote marks but it always reverted after I hit save. Thanks for making this all go live!!! Amazing!

Hey Dan,

For bug related things, best to email dev. And if you can provide details so we can recreate the issue that would be really useful. For example, I assume the issue your mention is related to search results and not browse results because we've had this issue with search before. It's related to the indexer updating the entry as you make changes but failing to remove the older version of the entry. Oz has fixed this today as far as I know.

Best practice for reporting bugs is provide a link to the page showing the problem (just copy paste your URL) and any steps to follow to create the problem again (e.g. click edit about text, click on img tab in helper panel, notice that it's all messed up somehow, etc.)

As usual your efforts are very much appreciated.

I completed the entry for UNICEF BOSSASO and for some reason now it shows up as two distinct yet identical entires if you do a search for UNICEF BOSSASO, each one having the smae id # and history.

PS, do you guys perfer issues like this being posted here or sent in an email to dev@naturalcapital.org?

Kelsang,
Can you send me the specifics of the issue you came across in an email so that we can track it down?

Let's talk about your suggestions on breaking down foundation into subtypes and having a closing date at our next meeting.

Hannah,
It looks like some of the resources were entered in invalid date formats. We will add date validation to prevent this problem in the future. In the mean time, please use the provided calendar popup. Thanks for pointing this out.

As far as distinguishing date entered from date posted, I am creating a ticket for it.
Sm_avatar
How about a "closing date" field under General Info in Jobs?
Sm_avatar

posted a job and pasted the text from a website. everything worked fine. however, when i tried making the job title bold (and hit the preview button) then i lost the formating and breaks. everything got converted to one large paragraph without any breaks. this has happened to me a few times.

Under "Foundation" in org. type, how about listing the various types of foundation?:
private foundation
public foundation
community foundation
corporate foundation

Just checked on an older resource, one I entered in 2006 about a book published in 2002 about a policy enacted in 1981. For some reason it now says the book was published on Dec 31, 1969. What has happened to the "date published" system?
Sm_avatar
When adding resources, there's now an automatic date and calender available for the "date published" box. Is there any way we can distinuish "date posted" from "date published". Particularly for articles and books, (for which I was including just a year for date published, or in some cases a month and year) having to stipulate an exact date, or else having it automatically enter the date posted, makes it unclear to the user when the resource was published.

Kelsang:

We plan to expand browsing with more views...eventually everything with a location should be browseable by location. Post date is a good idea too. I'm not sure if company name would be a benefit or just add confusion...Regardless of the ways one can browse, there will always be search.

Hannah,

Internationalization poses many problems to solve. Unfortunately there is no way for the system to programmatically know what in address 2 line is a city versus a suite number or a regional label or what have you. City has to be in city. The solution to your issue with Japan Water Forum is that Tokyo should only appear once in the city field and not in address 2 field. Correcting human error is a constant challenge to any data entry application. But the fact that we have an open system where anyone can fix things means hopefully someone would see that data entry was done poorly and correct it.
Sm_avatar
When adding an organization, the template has a box for "address", "address 2", and then "city". Most international addresses include the city in the 2nd line, and for the sake of clarity (in case someone actually tries to use these mailing addresses) I think we should keep the city as part of the second line. However, in order for the map to work properly, you must put in a city in the "city" box, so that the final address appears with the city twice. (Look at the organization page for the Japan Water Forum and you'll see what I mean - Tokyo appears twice, but if I take it out the second time the map can't find the address anymore.) Bearing in mind, particularly for international addresses, people will most likely copy an address exactly as it appears, is there any way we can rectify this problem? (Perhaps have some way of hiding the second "city"?)

it would be great if we could do the following to the jobs section:
browse by post date
browse by job location
browse by company name
&
if there was a box next to each position so that you can select and save it to an inbox or something.
