Create a WikiPage

First, check to see if you want to add your content as a WikiPage or a resource page to WiserEarth. WikiPages are freely editable web pages. They are often used as working documents (like a Word document) as they can be co-edited by one person or many people. Resources are used on WiserEarth are for describing more static content like a book or for pointing other community members to useful information such as a directory, research materials, a website or other forms of data you want to share with others.

1. Create a WikiPage by hovering your mouse over the pencil icon on your wikipages module in your group, then click "Create a new Article". If you want to create a wikipage from outside a group, use this link.

  2. Enter title. Try to pick a brief yet descriptive and catchy title for your wikipage. Remember to use capital letters appropriately.

3. Select privacy level.

'Public' wikipages can be viewed by everyone on the internet, and editable by all WiserEarth members.

'Private' wikipages created in a 'semi-private' group can be viewed by everyone on the internet, but editable only by group members.

'Private' wikipages created in a 'private' group can be viewed and edited only by group members.

4. Enter content

Enter text, links, pictures, tables and videos into your wikipage. When you're done, click the "Save" button.

Hi Bret,

Good observation. We found that wikipages were used mostly in the context of groups, and decided to remove the "Create a wikipage" link from the Contribute tab. But that link is still available for use. See the updated documentation above. You basically can achieve the same result by creating a wikipage in a group and then removing the connection between the wikipage and the group via the "Manage Articles" page.

There is however, no way to create a 'private' wikipage other than creating it within a 'private' group, and limitting access to people in that group. But if you're fine with writing all that in the open, then fire away with the supplied link.

Thanks,

Bowo

It seems to me that a WE wikipage can only be added from within a group (If this is true, maybe this fact could be made more clear in the documentation, such as in the Wikipages FAQ). What if you do not belong to any group, or if you do not belong to a group that the wikipage that you would like to create should probably be connected with? For example, I'd like to create a WE wikipage that lists the basic requirements for creating, running, and dissolving a California nonprofit organization.
