Bats

Bats, order Chiroptera, are the only flying mammals with forelimbs developed as wings. Most are insectivorous or nectar/fruit eating. There are about 945 species, which are cosmopolitan except for remote oceanic islands and cold climates. Some species provide pollination, bat guano (fertilizer), and insect-control services. Some date-eating bats are considered pests. Some are long-distance migrants. Some species are threatened by habitat removal, flyway destruction, or destruction of roosting and nursery sites, especially on oceanic islands.

Bat World Mojave Bat World-Mojave is located in the southern most part of California's Mojave desert, in the fragile area between the Mojave and California desert ecosystems. Bat World-Mojave was established to provide bat rehabilitation services to a willing community, and has the complete support of the Joshua Tree National Park, the Mojave Preserve, the Marine Corps Air to Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), and local animal control agencies.
